Children draw BIG at The Big Draw

A few weeks ago Lorenzo and I visited Hatfield, and in particular the University of Hertfordshire, as part of this year's BIG DRAW nationwide festival. For those of you unfamiliar with this series of events, it's really quite brilliantly simple. All throughout October, hundreds of shows, presentations and workshops (led by the marvelous Campaign for Drawing) are held all over the UK, to promote the act of drawing. As comic creators this is naturally the sort of thing that gets us excited, so we were delighted to step on the remarkable Weston Auditorium stage and share our ideas and passion for art.

And what a stage it was - take a peek at this state-of-the-art beauty! Our banners have never looked so dinky.

After the show we ran to our dressing room for a quick breather before heading back to sign a stack of books. We were AMAZED to discover that in the seconds it took us to grab a sneaky backstage cup of coffee and a cake, the children had managed to produce dozens and dozens of amazing pictures.

Fantastic stuff. If the aim of the day was to get the kids scribbling, then I'd say we achieved our goal!

Many thanks to Maureen Irving, all the University and festival staff, and the St Albans Children's Book group for inviting us to their fantastic show.
